e:PROGRESS is simple to use, but based on advanced technology at the forefront of the car charging industry. You can find out more about e:PROGRESS by reading our FAQs below.
e:PROGRESS is a collaboration between Honda, Moixa, a British clean technology company, Local Heroes (backed by British Gas), and Octopus Energy. The e:PROGRESS intelligent charging subscription uses Moixa's AI software and is only available for households with an eligible Octopus Energy tariff and a compatible charger installed by Local Heroes. e:PROGRESS helps Honda e drivers charge their car with low-cost, renewable energy.
e:PROGRESS brings you intelligent car charging, powered by renewable energy. e:PROGRESS creates a plan to charge your Honda e during low-price periods and ensures your car is ready to get you to your destination when you need it. Using the e:PROGRESS mobile application, you input your scheduled arrival and departure time for your typical week, then e:PROGRESS will manage your charging using the artificial intelligence software from Moixa.
To get e:PROGRESS and use intelligent charging, check your eligibility using our form. You’ll need to have a Honda e, off-street parking, live in mainland UK (not NI), buy a compatible charger and be eligible to switch to an eligible Octopus Energy tariff before activating your subscription.
e:PROGRESS intelligent charging subscription is available as soon as you get the compatible charger installed and change your energy tariff to an eligible Octopus Tariff.
e:PROGRESS supports Octopus Energy’s Agile Octopus and Octopus Go tariffs.
e:PROGRESS intelligent charging is only available to drivers with a Honda e.
You must select an e:PROGRESS approved charger through our partner, Local Heroes. Local Heroes offer installations of two e:PROGRESS compatible chargers: the Honda Power Charger S+ and the Alfen Eve Pro-Line.
e:PROGRESS intelligent charging is only possible when you use the Agile Octopus tariff supplied by our partner Octopus Energy. This is a flexible tariff based on wholesale energy prices and works with our intelligent charging subscription to maximise your savings.
e:PROGRESS smart charging is available when you use the Octopus Go tariff, also from Octopus Energy. This tariff offers low-cost charging between the hours of 00:30 - 04:30, daily.
If you are happy to purchase a charger through Local Heroes without switching to Agile Octopus or Octopus Go, or if you are not eligible for these tariffs, you can still do so but you will not be able to subscribe to the e:PROGRESS service.
The compatible chargers with the right connectivity can only be purchased from our partners Local Heroes, who would also carry out the installation.
Very little, if any at all. Despite being an advanced technology, electric cars are remarkably simple to maintain and the same goes for chargers. However, if you do experience any issues, e:PROGRESS is here to support you. Included with our service is three years’ remote diagnostics and repairs. If an onsite visit is required or you experience any in-warranty issues, we’ll liaise with the installer and/or manufacturer on your behalf.
The location of the charger will depend on a few factors. This includes having permission to install the charger if you are not the homeowner, and having off-street parking. When you contact our installation partner Local Heroes, they will advise you on specific requirements at your property.
You can purchase one of two charger options through our installation partner, Local Heroes (backed by British Gas) - please visit their page here. All the tradespeople registered to Local Heroes are checked to ensure they are qualified for the job they’re doing, have positive recommendations, are fully insured and follow the Local Heroes Code of Conduct.
They will help guide you through the charger installation and purchase process and answer any questions you may have.
You'll be guided through a simple virtual home check by our installation partner, Local Heroes. This will help them understand where the car charger will be fitted as well as identify any specific points about your home they need to be aware of before the engineer visits to install your new charger. This helps speed things up and get your charge point fitted in the minimum time with minimum fuss. If they see anything that requires further investigation on the virtual home check, they will send an engineer for a physical pre-installation visit.
The e:PROGRESS intelligent charging subscription is free for the first year (as long as it is activated within 6 months of your charger installation).
After your first year free the following price is only £1 a week, charged to you yearly at £52. This is a yearly subscription that will reniew automatically, unless you take action to cancel it.
We have calculated that Honda e drivers can save up to £400 per year by using e:PROGRESS intelligent charging. These savings are based on an average household energy consumption of 4200 kWh per year plus the energy consumed by a Honda e travelling 8,000 miles per year (22 miles per day) with an efficiency of 4 miles/kWh, or 2000 kWh. The monetary savings are calculated by comparing the cost of this energy when powered by Agile Octopus against a standard flat tariff with a rate of 17.4p/kWh and a standing charge of 25p/day. Tariff pricing for Agile Octopus is based on the past 12 months’ data (up to June 2021) for the London area. Vehicle charging costs are based on e:PROGRESS intelligent charging selecting the half-hourly periods with the lowest prices on the Agile Octopus tariff between 6pm and 6am each day. The vehicle charging rate is fixed at 6.6kW/h. Your savings will differ based on your household consumption, vehicle usage, driving style, and location.
If you are on Octopus Energy’s Octopus Go tariff, your savings will differ to those expected on Agile Octopus.
Agile Octopus lets you enjoy lower electricity prices when wholesale prices fall. It monitors the market and when prices drop, so do your bills. If the price falls below 0 p/kWh, you will be paid for charging your vehicle! This means that if you use electricity outside of peak demand, then you will pay less. This is ideal for overnight charging of electric cars, where savings can accrue from drawing electricity at times of low demand.
Octopus Go offers four hours of low cost electricity (5 p/kWh as of October 2021) between 00:30 and 04:30, every day.
Yes. e:PROGRESS intelligent charging requires an eligible smart tariff from Octopus Energy. We use Agile Octopus' dynamic, wholesale prices, or Octopus Go’s scheduled off-peak prices, to charge your car with renewable energy at the lowest cost.
If you are happy to purchase a charger through Local Heroes without switching the tariff (or if you're ineligible for it) you are welcome to do so, but you may not receive the same benefit as when you sign up to e:PROGRESS.
Don't worry, Octopus Energy will liaise directly with your old supplier to let them know about your switch. The only thing they can’t do is cancel your old Direct Debit — that's between your bank and your old supplier.
You only need to switch your electricity supply to Octopus Energy. They can also supply your gas if you’d like to switch both, but this is entirely up to you.
In order to use the e:PROGRESS intelligent charging subscription you will need to have moved onto an eligible tariff (Agile Octopus or Octopus Go) from our partner Octopus Energy. Therefore, we encourage you to start your switch to Octopus Energy as soon as possible. If you're not eligible for the Agile Octopus or Octopus Go tariff, you won't be able to use the intelligent charging functionality.
The Agile Octopus and Octopus Go tariffs require a smart meter to be installed at your property, and Octopus will let you know the current lead time for this. Whilst your tariff switch is underway, Octopus Energy will move you on to one of their standard energy tariffs which are also 100% renewable energy.
The main requirement is that you have a smart meter installed. If you do not already have a smart meter installed and you are unsure whether you are eligible to have one installed, we recommend you speak with Octopus Energy before purchasing a charger from Local Heroes. If you are unable to switch to either the Agile Octopus or Octopus Go tariff, you will not be able to use the intelligent charging functionality.
Unfortunately, there are a number of reasons why you might not be able to get a smart meter. Poor network coverage is one of the main issues. Smart meters rely on coverage to send signals back to the supplier. As infrastructure improves, this will become less of a problem. The position of the meter is also important. Meters in metal boxes are unable to send signals effectively.
You can switch your tariff directly through the Octopus Energy website or by contacting Octopus on 0330 808 1080. Simply select either the Agile Octopus or Octopus Go tariff. The Octopus team will be able to guide you through the tariff switch process. Please note that if you are not eligible to switch tariffs, you won't be able to subscribe to the intelligent charging.
You will always be able to charge immediately using the charge now functionality on the app.
Your car will be ready for you when you need it, and will reach the correct level of charge by the time you have indicated you will need it by, provided you have used the e:PROGRESS app correctly and connected car to charger over night. Intelligent charging balances the savings gained by ‘topping up’ your charge, with the need to have your car ready to drive the required distance when you need it.
e:PROGRESS needs you to enter a few simple pieces of information so it knows when you want to start driving, how far you’re likely to go, and how much charge you’re comfortable with having in reserve. It will not set charging plans without your input.
e:PROGRESS intelligent charging lets you plug in your car as normal when you are at home. The intelligent charging technology will make sure your car has the optimum charge needed to reach your destination, for the time you need it, charged from the low-cost electricity. This means the system works quietly in the background, letting you get on with your life.
In order to get the low-cost electricity and the greatest savings we suggest that you plug in your car whenever you are home.
